Wood sculpture, 'Elder Woman'
Wrapped in a colorful dress, an elder woman sits on a Ghanaian stool throne. Her hair is combed in an elaborate coif and her face bears tribal scarification, simulated in embossed brass. Frank Obiri-Ntow depicts an obaa pinyin, or "older woman" in the language of Ghana's Akan people, who treat such matrons with great respect.
